The man allegedly backed up, continued driving, and was apprehended a quarter of a mile from the site of the incident. Reports state that palm tree detritus was still lodged in car. His female passenger was air-lifted to the hospital with critical injuries, while he suffered only minor injuries, and was charged with DUI with serious bodily injury, DUI with property damage, and DUI and careless driving. Although in this bizarre husband and wife case it is highly unlikely that the woman even wants criminal charges brought against her husband, much less a civil case, the fact remains that she was seriously injured as the result of being a passenger in that vehicle. Had the driver been anyone else, she would most likely be discussing her case with attorneys as soon as she was physically able.
