Anabolic steroids have been around for a long time, they were originally developed in the 1930s with the intention of increasing male sexual performance and to grow bone and muscle mass. As well as these characteristics they were seen as having great potential as they built protein in the body. This class of steroids is used by body builders due to the fact that they enhance performance by decreasing fat and increasing muscle.
